Moving to Italy
Hi all. I am planning a move to Italy with my italian wife and child. As we will need an income, we are considering investing our money in holiday lets and a small b&b to run. We have around 1.3M euros our life savings and wondered if it is feasible to make this level of capital generate sufficient income for a decent lifestyle. The region we are looking at is le marche around Sirolo. Would welcome some advice

Have you checked out the requirements for the ERV (Elective residency visa)? Once you know that you qualify you can push on with your project.

If you have more than 1 holiday let, you will pay a flat rate of 26% tax on the income - if you add to that a B&B things could get complicated. You will need to check the requirements for B&Bs in le MArche - each region is different. If you were to put the B&B in your name say and the lets in in your wife's name you could theoretically avoid getting a partita IVA and all that entails. You will need a self employed visa to do all this, which are limited in number - and seem to require that you have everything you need to be self employed before you ask for it - in your case - holiday lets and a B&B,

Sorry i didnt see that his wife was Italian... screen too small for my ancient eyes. Well, the simplest thing in that case is do everything in his wife's name while he gets his Permesso di Soggiorno for motivi familiari. Once he's got that, life is much easier.
