Kindle wi-fi

Re: Kindle wi-fi
TestaRossa, I don't want to split hairs with you but the Sony e-reader was never tied into Waterstones e-book library. Waterstones had a very short exclusive deal to sell the actual device (two weeks) and after that it was available through other retailers. John Lewis and WH Smith were amongst the first to take up the e-reader and both straight away undercut Waterstones on their pricing of the actual device. At no time did Waterstones have an exclusive deal on their e-book product. From the outset, the e-reader was compatible with other e-book retailers. Unlike the kindle, it has never been tied into just the one source. If you shop around prices do vary. I like the e-reader because it gives you that choice. (otherwise both devices are more or less the same).
Anyway, I've got the iPad

Re: Kindle wi-fi
If thats a new thing then thats good, but on Kindle forums up until quite recently there was a lot of talk about people who had bought in the UK and lived abroad, as soon as they had been downloading from abroad for a while they found themselves being shifter to .com, and then they couldnt download a lot of books from the .uk site

Who knows
I bought this one on the UK site, but from Spain for delivery to the UK. It was instantly registered to .com. I did go on and change it to .uk .
However, as I said ... I went on to the kindle forum and there was a lot of unhappiness there about the fact that by doing what I did above, they ended up being moved to .com when they started uploading abroad. They could no longer get many books from the .uk site, because they are markede (now) "not available to non UK residents". There was no mention about being able to change back, but hopefully thats changed! We'll see, the wife wont be using it until Christmas :-)

Re: Kindle wi-fi
I think it has more to do with actually buying books not using an UK ip address or a UK 3G signal. I could be wrong (impossible) but I think if you have a UK Kindle, you should at least be buying a book now and again from the UK site. If they see you are constanting purchasing books from outside the UK, they'll flag you as a non-UK resident, subsequently redirecting you to the .com site.

Re: Kindle wi-fi
Could be - but then why is my OH able to pick and choose?? When .co.uk first started selling the Kindle he got a flag on his account saying that he could switch to buying from there if he preferred and that was while he was here - well actually I have all my pc's etc linked to his Whispernet account so it came up on my PC here...

Anyway, I can really recommend the iPad for HD Porn. It's fantastic.
