Go on then - tell us exactly how your name is pronounced.

I thought Lorna was dead simple but got asked many times if it was meant to be Lorena, Laura, Norma. A few friends have still managed to Italianise it by calling me Lornina or Lornetta.

! I know Bond films full stop seem to be on a lot! I don't tend to watch in Italian though!

Thanks for all your welcomes!
I know, I had a friend with the same name a looong time ago. It's difficult for us English to pronounce, so I dread to think what the Italians do with it!! I couldn't begin to write it phonetically even! I was always calling her shawn by mistake...Didn't go down very well...

I suppose you could say it's pronounced SHARN, more or less. I'm quite used to it being pronounced badly, even when I was at school in England the teachers would get it wrong!

I can walk home in twenty minutes from the centre - uphill all the way. Hard work with a pushchair but easy peasy after a couple of gins

Even easier after a few more. In fact, replace baby with gin bottle.

No-one can pronounce my name here either (Katharine)- it always ends up as something like Kate-a-leen. What's with Italians' conviction that the English "a" is pronounced "e"?!

Need to start choosing baby names soon... would love an English name but it'll need careful consideration due to pronunciation issues (including for its father!)
Welcome Sian by the way, there were a few people with your name at school so I'm hoping I'm able to give its pronunciation justice!

Congratulations! The best advice anyone gave me was to chose something with more than one syllable. Unfortunately this was after we had named Seán. Also, have you noticed how many pets here have English names?

Thanks!

Oh, I never noticed that about the pets but come to think of it, my mother-in-law has a cat called Jenny. Gosh, it's a minefield!

Sorry Sian didn't mean to hijack your thread!
