Getting a short term (six month) visa
Does anyone know abything about UK residents with second houses in Italy applying for what newspapers call an extended or short term visa (not sure what the right expression is, but I mean a visa for an unbroken six month stay). How does one set about getting one ? Are they hard to sort out ? Who do you have to apply to ? Are there any complications ? Have I misunderstood something ?

If you go on the Italian consulate website it gives deatails of what Visas are available and what documents you need to get them
I tried to post a link but without joy
I cannot see a six month visa mentioned

Thanks very much. I'm afraid it looks as if I misunderstood something.
Incidentally, if a non-EU citizen who hasn't got a house here wants to come to Italy for, say, five months, for business maybe, or to do research, how would he/she set about it ?

AFAIK, you can't. Max 90 days. Or a work/study visa - if you qualify- with residency/tax implications.

Some EU countries eg France do a six month visa but as immigration to a country is determined by each individual state it is down to the country concerned subject to the overarching EU/Schengen rules. So if you got a six month visa to France you still could not spend any more than 90 days in other EU countries.Although how that would be enforced at the moment is a bit of a moot point
