Re: English language teacher in Italy
so, do I understand this correctly...it would be €20 for one-on-one, €25 per hour for a class of two and €30 for a class of three etc...that is less than I was expecting. Where are you based?

North Italy near Reg. Em. thats with 14 years teaching experience and CELTA qualified.
You certainly will not make a fortune teching english not to mention all the messing about with private students cancelling 5 mins before a lesson, so my advice is to get all that sorted out before also get paid after every lesson.
The problem I have found with groups is - it just doesn't work unless its a family or something, they all have different time tables appointments etc so a Monday is okay for Marco but not Julia etc etc, but thats only my view on it. I get my work by word of mouth I never advertise - I like to know who I am bringing into my home.

LORNA
Just read your other post re dropping the price obviously thats what I meant if there was a large group ie 12 people you could charge €12 a person. So everyone is happy especially teacher!!!
Sorry if I didn't make it clear in my previous post.

Re: English language teacher in Italy
I´m amazed for I think I´ve been living in Eastern Europe for too long. Living in the Czech Republic is only a little cheaper than Italy but wages are much lower. For example, teaching agencies charge companies between 15 and 20 euros per group (5 max) for a 45min teaching hour. This means 1 employee in a group of 4 would cost the company approx. 8 euros for a 90m block. The teacher receives half. I charge companies 10 euros per hour (for 45m) and individual students 8 to 10 euros (60m) which brings in around 1000euros per month which is 40% higher than our country´s average wage. I charge 10 euros per standard page for translating Czech to English texts which averages out at around 16 euros per hour so I´m planning on taking a year out (or 2) in Italy translating texts on the internet but am looking for some teaching work as well. My Italian is elementary but I plan to learn the language in time. I´m curious if this language barrier causes big problems in Italy as I teach according to a non-native language plan.
