Elective residency
Hi everyone
I am not yet ready to give up on my long lazy Italian summers and so I am looking at elective residency as an option. OH will retire in three years at which point we will probably meet the income requirements but in the meantime does the fact that we own a house in Italy reduce/alter the income conditions and is there any way you can use savings towards meeting the income conditions? I am not sure if it has any bearing but we will only be staying 180 days per year and the elective residency visa seems to be for permanent moves.
Also has anyone used a legal firm in the UK to help with the process and if so how did it go?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Elective residency
First thing that you will need is a visa

When you have this sorted you can start thinking about a PDS

Re: Elective residency
From what I can gather, unless your house is rented or provides income, then it cant be used to offset the income requirements. As for savings I dont know - I presume that providing your bank balance will show you have the requisite dosh so as long as thats there, they cant quibble too much. Elective Residency is also for non permanent moves, US citizens have been using it for 6 month stays for years.

Re the link: You do not register your contract with the comune. It is registered at the tax office - Agenzia delle Entrate.

Re: Elective residency
Nope. The Agenzia dell'Entrate may be in the comune, but it has no connection with the comune. Usually they're in the provincial town (depending on the size of the province) ..

Re: Elective residency
Hi everyone
I am still not conceding defeat just yet but I am confused. I have been looking at various legal firms' web sites and other on line advice and frankly I am at a loss. Some places mention a requirement to have an annual passive (i.e. pensions not earnings) income of 38000 euros other just say you have to have said 38000 euros and others just say substantial income. The consulate website
https://conslondra.esteri.it/consola...residence.html
just says substantial and stable private income.
Does anyone know if there is anything definite laid down in law or is it just down to the consulate on the day?
Thanks in advance

Re: Elective residency
Technically it's 4 times the minimum plus 20% for every other person in hte household or 5% for a child. That should make it around 33000 for an adult, and 40000 for a couple. But these are guidelines, and if you are in Calabria it will be less than on Lago di Como. Each application is treated individually.

Re: Elective residency
Thanks Modicasa that explains a lot. So if you feel you can put a convincing case together you can have a go. I think I may just do that.
