Cuffia? I thought that meant headphones? Or is this earplugs?

Ahh! Interestingly, the outdoor pool in the Cascine here doesn't require you to wear them. All the other pools do.

I would keep the doors closed, shutters too, open the window thou to let any air breeze thru. Shade your windows with canopies if possible, I have seen makeshift ones with bedsheets etc tied to balconies on my travels.
Open dishes of water on the window sills under the open window, follow that?
Invest in some ceiling fans. Linen bed sheets, not polyester that does not breath like a natural fabric, cotton bed clothes, better than no clothes and its too hot for that anyway -see earlier posts!-
Lots of drinks, not alcoholic, it dehydrates.
Light meals, forget the toad in the hole, roast beef dinners for awhile. If you have a window at the top of the house open it for the hot air to rise and thereby get a draught up thru the house.
More ideas look at the Moorish buildings who seem to air condition them with small openings etc.

Well serves me right for buying stuff in the 1 euro basket - poor little mite came home and complained that the cap had almost made him bald cos all his hairs stuck to the inside and when he pulled it off he lost a load of hairs - silly mummy forgot to put some talc in the cap (it was one of those rubber tight caps - ow!!)

Should I ever have to wear a swimming cap again I'd like one covered in plastic flowers like a synchronise swimmer. Will pout too like they do.

Ugh, those hats remind me of my Nan insisting I wear a spectacularly flowery one at the Seaside and me refusing.
Regarding keeping cool in the heat, I read somewhere a suggestion to put your pillowcase in the freezer (in a bag) so when you first lie down it cools your neck and head down for a while. Anyone tried this?

as mentioned above, put the pillowcase into a bag first, then it will just be icy cold but not wet. It will not defrost. Though you could try experimenting with wet vs. dry.

Be careful girls - you know you're just asking for a 'cervicale' with all that cold on your neck !!! I told one of my friends (italian need I say) that I doused myself with water and stood in front of the fan - she nearly had a heart attack

bloody awful at the moment isn't it?! Oh well, time enough to complain about the freezing cold winter we're sure to have. How British is that? Complain about the weather, talk about the weather, plan for the weather....yawn

I don't know what you are all complaining about! It's lovely!
And no, I haven't got the AC on - one was leaking this morning so I've been drying them out with just the fan on, but all the doors and windows open. Finally got hold of those Raid Night and Day mozzie killers so OH will let me have them open in the evening! Yay!
