Changing paper uk driving licence to Italian?
Hi, I know I should probably have changed it 20 years ago but didn't.
I have my Uk licence connected to my mother's address but now she's just moved house (her old one is up for sale),so I really don't know what to do.
For Italy they say they can't convert it to an Italian one as I've lived here longer than 4 years.
For the Uk do I tell them of my brother's address for example(as it's more permament) but then I'd have to send them my paper one to convert it to the new photocard one.(I presume I'd be without a licence for a few weeks)
Or do I say I've lost it and ask for a replacement and keep it to my mother's address and then later tell them of the new address.
Help.Any advice needed

If you live in Italy, you need an Italian license. Using the address of a relative in the UK is at best highly questionable, and in all probability your licence would be ruled invalid if you were involved in a significant accident.
Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some advice on how to get an Italian licence.

Given that Brit's in Europe frequently wait until their photocard licence expires, which could mean as long as ten years, I find it hard to believe that waiting for four years would be a problem.

So I did some digging and here is what I found:
NORME GENERALI - Conversione / Rinnovo Patente Estera
Sorry Puleski, it's in Italian, but in short, it says that it is non-Eu have four years from the date of residency to convert.

P.s. the bit about EU driving license s should be ignored because it is out of date.

But if we're British (and still part of the EU for the moment) we are EU.So I should be ok then?

Well I really could not face reading all of the link, but I'm sure I looked at this a few times in recent years. If my memory serves me rightly you used to be able to drive on an EU (UK) licence until it expired (paper don't have an expiry?). This changed recently in Italy (a year at most), therefore surely it matters little how long you have been here regards getting an Italian licence (which I think you do now need).

ETA - Geordieborn posted simultaneously - so just to clarify , when he said "If my memory serves me rightly you used to be able to drive on an EU (UK) licence until it expired" I think you'll find that it is/was OK until the UK licence expired OR WHEN IT WOULD HAVE EXPIRED IF IT WERE AN ITALIAN LICENCE, WHICHEVER IS EARLIER.

Yup. I did it after almost 10 years residency - through the local ACI office - no problems whatsoever. This was about 2 years ago.
