Now heres a theory which has to have merit. I checked on internet and found that apart from supermarkets and pharmacists in Italy being the only shops open, so too are newsagents as they too are deemed essential. The article said ' In Milan, newspaper vendors are proud of what they do. Rosi Varezza who operates a small but busy newsstand, explained that papers are essential for elderly readers who are most at risk from the outbreak. Clients buy newspapers for habit.......' Now that does not make sense....surely a deathwish contradiction?? I checked online and the virus stays on paper for up to 24 hrs. So why are newspapers still in circulation every day? Would you accept one from a person who had the virus? I'd run a mile. Yet everyone can openly circulate the virus freely via the newsagent, through coins, notes and the agent's own possible illness. I just dont understand why they are still open after todays catastrophic rate of deaths.....You have to eat and get medicines....but newspapers????? Sorry but this really makes my blood boil after seeing all those poor oldies gasping for air and dying....the govmt HAS to close them down. Let the oldies watch TV to get the news....lets hope the mortality is lower tomorrow...

Ever more we complain of the failures in life (and yes, I do), for a minute or two, let’s just enjoy being alive…

It really makes a difference to be able to order food so everyone can actually isolate and stop spreading the Covid19 all over the place randomly to other shoppers and the cashiers at the stores also.

There could be some money put into deliveries so we can actually fulfill the Shut Down requirements.
Our supermarket cashiers are now all behind protective screens. Any dealing with them (cash payers) is through a slot in the screen.
Same in pharmacies. Also no. of ppl allowed in is limited. No. of ppl depends on shop size.

We are not allowed to move out of the Comune now. All Italians will be provided with masks. Not sure about non Italians?

In Austria they tell us masks are useless (I don't agree). Apparently, some friendly EU members "put the arm on a shipment of materials" from China to Italy. Just saw it on TV.
I hope you get masks and much needed materials. All the best.

My wife's uncle, who lived in the north, died yesterday. It was not unexpected - he had a stroke two years ago and was in a comatose state ever since, and so had been at a specialist facility. But the specialist facility is in a different town from my aunt-in-law, and my mother-in-law. Neither of whom can leave their towns to go to make arrangements, and of course now no funerals are allowed. The children (two in Italy, one in the UK) can't go either. So what was settled was that the body would be cremated, and then the urn shipped to my aunt-in-law in his hometown.

That is terrible news. Sorry to hear.

I fear the longer this goes on the same may happen with my grandfather in Malta. If he gets sick, we may not be able to make it over there. He has some lung issues and is not terribly ill at the moment but that could change anytime.

Sorry to read this for your family members. Very upsetting all round. I hope they can find some comfort somehow.

A neighbour gave us one-to share. Partner has just gone shopping in the village. Was told if I went also I'd have to sit in the back of the car and explain myself if stopped despite that we live and sleep together. Crazy!

Italy seems to be at its best when making up new rules. I risked a Euro500 fine taking my dog out at 6.30am for a distance that exceeded 200m and picking some wild asparagus (illegal motive). Fortunately I never encountered anybody.

[Snipped the picture of the dog - even though it was cute]

Could you tell me where you got the figure of 200 metres from?
