Default Worries About Job Referances

Im a little worried at the moment we have just sent off our application for a 136visa in hairdressing. Our worry is that my partner works for a very small company and we didnt want to ask for a referance as we are a little dubious that he wouldnt do her any favours on the referance or even get rid of her as he can be vindictive. We have done a stat dec but i have heard that dima can still ask for a referance and we are worried sick that this could happen. is there a chance they could still ask for a referance even though a stat dec has been done and if they do ask for a referance is there anyway around it?
thanks

I also spoke to my agent this morning and she said a stat dec should suffice, but that dosnt tell me that they wont ask for a referance. Anyone had experience of dima asking for referances or more proofs?
thanks

Hi Chris

I sent a stat dec and copies of my contract and payslips and while these were sufficient proof when having my qualifications assessed dima did ask for a reference as well. What they asked for was quite straightforward-just confirmation that I had been employed full time for a certain period, my duties, and my salary. Didn't request any personal opinion from my employer so hopefully even a vindictive employer would provide that much information.

If DIAC wants a reference, then you have authorised them to ask your employer for one when you signed on the dotted line in your application. You can try just a statutory declaration, but don't be surprised if they do contact your employer.
