you have to leave to be granted and you validate coming back in.
You go to a mission (embassy etc) offshore to get visa sticker or you come back in with the emailed grant letter you got offshore and possible wait around whilst they check it at the airport and then you go to Immigration office here and get sticker.
You all have to leave together to be granted - well thats what our letter says anyway. Presumably that means you all come back in together - but I think it'll just mean main applicant needs to stand in queue first for us! That isn't always a requirement - just usually. If its a problem to do that I'd talk to your CO before grant and see if they can help or not.

Any suggestions?

no don't - sorry Tiff
It says this online right from the day you pay your cash for lodgment.
So whether to go ahead or not depends which visa you are lodged for
If you are a box standard 175 or family 176 you could be in for a long old wait and the meds etc may very well expire
If you are CSL (still) then you should have a CO by end of MAy so may be worth booking them soonish.......
Or be safe and wait for CO to ask for them.

Since our 2nd 457 medicals are still valid, I guess we'll only need to do the medical check-up.

Hi all,
Found alot of useful help on "whos applying 457" thread hoping to get the same from this.
Came here in July 08 on a 457 visa, have now started employer sponsored pr because i turn 45 in June 09,from what i believe the employer starts nomination process as in 457 visa then i apply for my visa, is this correct?
Have just done my TRA assesment, do i need to have my application in before i turn 45? and if so do i need to upload medicals and police checks before i turn 45?
Can i use police checks i did in UK last May or do i now get checks done in Australia.
Thanks in advance
Mick

its much easier if oyur applicatioon is in before you turn 45 yrs but there are exemptions available afterwards if you can meet the criteria.
Old uk police checks are usually fine if you've not been back for more than a holiday so wouldn't bother unless asked for them. You will need aus federal police checks now you've been living here.
Not sure about meds and pccs - because you can wait til requested by CO then assume they can be done after 45yrs but not certain. Grant on these visas are pretty damn quick now so if your employer and you get the paperwork in order now it should all happen before your birthday anyway!
