Default What are my chances

I was hoping someone could help me out, I started an apprenticeship when i left school and did get my first year C&G in carpentry & joinery. I was put with a subcontractor and was abused by him (fetching and carrying with no teaching at all) i decided to leave a go and work with my father who was a carpenter and joiner who specialised in interior fitting (kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and studies) so for the last 19yrs ive followed in his foot steps and 6yrs ago i decided to set up my own company doing the same thing. So my question is: will i qualify for a visa. any advice would be grateful.

Many thanks Andrew

Hi, I think you best bet is to contact an agent who will be able to advise you what route to take. There are a couple on here, they will be your best bet.

Hi, immi.gov.au has a lot of useful info on visas.

I'm pretty certain self-employment still counts as long as you've been working at least 20 hours per week

the only downside is you may need some qualifications?

Gomatilda are supposed to be good agents - I've been emailing John there today about my situation and he's been helpful.

I've also come across four corners (quite local to me) who do a 2 hour evaluation for £30 which I thought was really good? But I've no idea how much anyone else charges, I'm literally trying to decide how I can spend the next 3-4 years working towards the visa - also self employed

Good luck,
Jen

Hi Andrew,

The critical issue in your case is going to be getting skills assessed - see http://www.vetassess.com.au/index.cfm?menu=1.3a - but you might wish to use our assessment form at www.austimmigration.com.au to confirm your eligibility for general skilled migration.

Cheers,

George Lombard
