We have been advised by an agent that we could go to Oz on a Business Visa the way it works is as follows:

We go to Oz for say 3 months to have a good look around and look at potential businesses to buy. If we buy a going concern then all we have to do is have it turning over $200k per annum and employ 2 Oz nationals within 4 years and then bingo you get PR. It all seems to easy and I don't read anyone else on this site doing using the same method - have we been misled or it simply that most people don't want to be self employed out there?

You can obtain a subclass 457 independent executive visa if you have A$250k
available and a satisfactory business plan. One simple way of putting
together a satisfactory business plan is purchasing an existing business;
however, you can only apply for that visa overseas, so your agent should be
telling you the bit about going home and waiting.

The agent should also tell you that a careful business plan could save you
the hassle of buying something which turns out to be useless. We have had a
number of examples of this brought to our attention over the years, so my
advice is don't buy anything which relies on goodwill, promised planning
approval, vendor remaining in employment with you ...

Also, for a later pr application, the established business in Australia
category has its pitfalls. Principal among these is the risk that you may
not meet the turnover and staffing requirements for reasons outside of you

I suppose you are talking about Business Skills Visa.
There are four different categories i.e. Business Owner Visa, Senior
Executive Visa, State or Territory sponsored Business Owner Visa and
Investor Visa.

To meet the criteria of these categories you have to score minimum
points which are gained on the basis of your Business background,
Labour Costs, Total Assets,and Business employing the applicant (in
case of senior executive.

In case of Investment Visa you (along with your partner) need to have
minimum A$700,000 plus other business attributes.

The best way is to go to Australia on a Long Stay business Visa under
which you can either start your own business or buy an existing
business in Australia. The business should be beneficial to Australian
economy. This is a temporary visa for 4 years. You will need to run
the business for 18 months if it is a new business. Otherwise you can
buy a running business in Australia.

After 9 months you can apply for Permanent Business Visa.

Hi

We have spoken with two. The first one did an assessment for us for £100 but when we went to visit we didn't get a good feeling about the organisation (it seemed a bit fly by night) so we found another one. The second one is an Oz lawyer who is living over here and specialising in immigration. She didn't charge us for the initial meeting (which lasted over an hour) and she has quoted us ballpark figures of c £6k for a biz visa. I think you would find that a Skilled Migrant Visa would be cheaper say £3/4k

I'm not sure what you mean but as I said in my earlier response she didn't charge us.

GBP3-4k is very high for a skilled visa.
Most Australian agents could beat that price very significantly,
especially if you're paying in pounds translated to A$ dollars.

Wow! - £6k for a 457ie visa is extortionate. Our agent in London got our 457ie with consumate ease and it cost about £2k think. Email me direct (look it up in the member listings) and i'll give you details if you want.
