hi all,
I haven't posted on this forum in many years. Sadly this is my first post back in a long while.
I found out just now that my mother sadly passed away a few hours ago. My UK passport expired not so long ago - I was about to renew it online, only this week.
I've been here in Brisbane on a spouse visa (permanent resident subclass 801) for over 15 yrs now,....in that time I haven't got my act together to get an Australian passport or citizenship.
Just hoping that someone might be able to help point me in the right direction, to be able to get back over to the UK as soon as I can (and - get back into Australia with minimal fuss, as my family will remain here whilst I am overseas).
Do I need to apply for UK emergency travel documents? Should I contact the Aus passport office first?
thanks and kind regards
M

asprilla, once you have a new passport you will need to update info with immi and apply for RRV so you can travel back

Do you think I'll need to get a new passport as part of process? I'm wondering what impact this might have on my trip duration, if any.

Thanks old.sparkles. I was thinking/ guessing that I could travel to the UK, and back, via the emergency travel document alone (getting in touch with immi first though, to cover RRV requirements).

Looks like I might need to get the emergency travel document, obtain new British passport whilst in the UK, then apply for RRV.
Hopefully that is all doable. I reckon I'll be on the phone a fair bit during the coming days trying to sort this out.
EDIT - mini crisis averted, fortunately. My passport isn't expired.
..it still has just over 6 months left on it. Just waiting on RRV now.
Thanks all for your comments.
