Default TRA assessment

Ok, it's all filled in, again, with everything I can think of, only...how do
I get a reference from my current employer without telling them I'm off to
Oz? It's not like I'm gonna get the boot or anything but it may be a bit
awkward!

Hi, how's it going?

We have the same predicament. We have everything except a reference from the current employer. It is a bit of a sore point as I have been asking my other half to get it for weeks now only to find he is worried abut what they will say, think, whatever. It's an awkward one. We would love to hear how you get on.

I have lots of family in Queensland so I suggested maybe saying that we are going for an extended holiday as my kids don't get a chance to get to know that part of the family (well it's true really, we're just not saying how extended it will be!). We can only afford it if we work so need a visa allowing us to work and that's why we need a reference from them.

Garrie's a good worker so I think it will be a little akward but they will want him back so I think he will be ok.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Susan.

Hi there

I just consulted the Mrs who's had more jobs than hot dinners and her advise
is, just ask the personnel dept. She's got a point when she says that they
CAN'T sack you for asking for a reference. And if they make things awkward
for you, you've got them for harassment! Obviously we don't want this to
happen. Gonna ask mine tomorrow. I'll let you know what they say. I work for
Centrica, ie British Gas, a 'fairly' large company. I am also the top
performing electrician in the company! Hey, what can I say? I love my job.
They probably won't want me to go either. Should be interesting :)

No idea chap. I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

Rang my manager today and explained to him that I required a reference cos
I'm sick to death of this country and want to emigrate to Oz. He said..."I
don't blame you" and proceeded to rant and rave about the exact same things
that pee me off over here!! Said he will sort a reference for me asap!

Blimey, that was easy. Will let you know when I get it.

Hah, I'm ahead of you there. Did exactly that when I realised that they
wanted specifics. I sent them 'sample' statements, to show them what was
required, adding "feel free to include any or all of this statement". Will
let you know how I get on.

Cheers
