I'm confused, do the Australian Government not have a perfect right to alter the Immigration numbers and rules as they think fit? Their changes are for the benefit of the country as a whole. It's not for the benefit of a relatively few number of people trying to get into the country.
Ok everyone, start your flaming.

Hi George,
I'm waiting on my ACS assessment and was planning on applying for my visa before 30th June. (I am an Information Technology Manager and think it's likely my occupation will be removed from the new SOL). This is now not an option, so if my occupation is released I guess that's it...do you have any foresight or views on what occupations are likely to stay? I guess all I can do is hold tight...Iformation Technology Manager is unlikey to fit elsewhere so my dream could be over
Thanks

Hi all,
Can anyone speculate that this temporary suspension, will provide some insight into the GSM176 application lodged in Feb 2008. Will this process outcome will be the finalization timeline for this visa class.
Looking forward
Thanks

What makes you so sure about that? I don't think there will be many IT-professions on the new SOL ... at least not if they're mainly using the first draft. There's just programmers on it. OK, nobody knows yet what the states are going to sponsor but I don't think there will be many IT-professions on the general SOL (apart from programmers).

Hey Jenni,
How are you? No I am not still not there! My bad!

But I have resigned from my current company and will be landing in great Ozz within next 2-3 months!
How's Ozz life treating you there? Is it up to your expectations?
Cheers!

The new Budget just announced states that the migration program overall will remai at 168,700.
Employer nomination places will increase by 9150 while GSM will DECREASE by 3600. Additionally business migration will increase by 200 places.
It will be interesting to see how the new SOL and points test reflects this.
But generally its not too bad.
Cheers
Chris.

I fail to see what difference it would make if they gave warning or how they would. If they gave warning everyone would try to get their applications in before the deadline and cause even more problem.
Yes it's a ghastly and sad situation for many people but getting shitty with a Government who are looking out for their current citizens is fairly daft imo as is making ridiculous and damaging statements like your last one.

I guess I am not allowed to express my thoughts…It would be much better if DIAC had a proper way of handling these issues…e.g.. letting everyone one know way before ahead and staffing accordingly.
This is the second time that I had to change my plans. And I am pretty to sure there are many out there in the same boat.

Those of us who have been through it know how bad the waiting is, but it isn't helped by people speculating about doom and gloom with no basis for their facts.
The result is evident quickly when people start their own threads saying "I've heard that......" and we have to spend hours quashing the rumours and putting minds at rest.
If you want to go and speculate about highly unlikely developments in the visa world, please go and do it in the Barbie, where other people can join in and chat about it to their hearts content, NOT in the Immigration forum where we try to keep things factual and informative.
