Unhappy Processing time for Offshore Skilled Visas has gone up!!!

Just read on the DIMA website that Processing times for Skiled Offshore Visas has gone up to 12 months for Low Risk countries and 15 Months for High risk countries. SIR visas will now take 7 months.
I hope DIMA is not going the CIC way!

The most recently posted information on processing times is my mention about two weeks ago of the 30% increase in applications - at present no-one knows how much that will slow the process, however as we know that July/November applications are being reached for non MODL/MODL you can do your own sums - generally an application will be finalised within two or three months of a case officer being assigned. Sometimes much shorter, sometimes much longer. So at the moment you could say it's 10 months for non-MODL and seven months for MODL, and probably that factors in a proportion of the slowdown due to the increase in applications. But it's a very inexact science.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Dear George,

I would like to know something about my application.
I've applied for STNI visa and I have been waiting since 12th August last year. I am from Serbia(formal Yugoslavia) and I have got a case officer
on 17th November. I have front loaded Pcc and Medicals 5 months ago.
We have not got any news from CO and I am little bit concerned.
I ofter think that the main reason could be the country from which I come.
Another reason could be that I am self employed and I really do not know what is happening.
Please if you could give me an advice or suggest me what I should do.
Thank you in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg,

This isn't an uncommon scenario for the former Yugoslavia. They check a lot of the documentation and we had to take one case to the AAT to prove employment, see http://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/di...t/2002/325.htm . Not only did they say that the documentation was fraudulent but they said that the applicant had bad character in providing it.

So all you can do is make sure that your employers know that they may be contacted, that your education documentation is verifiable, and that, for example, your Republican Pension Fund Statements back up your employment claims.

Cheers,

George Lombard

Hope they are not set in stone Sam, I shall be old, dry and menopausal at this rate.

whaaa..?? can you post the URL here? It's not clear whether the processing time HAS gone up or WILL go up to 12-15mos.

I lodged mine last Nov 2005...i wonder if it will be affected? it says in the acknowledgement that it will take about 9 mos for visa to be granted!
They should ammend all acknowledgement letters if that's the case!

BAD news if its 12 months and above. I was looking forward to being in
Oz by July/August. Filed for my General Skilled Offshore in late
November 2005.
