Newbie has some dumb questions!
Hi Folks,
Any chance of some advice please!
I would like to apply for skilled migration to Oz. Im 26 and an IT worker so juding
by a few of the threads on here I will be aabout as welcome as a fart in a space suit
My questions are:
1) Can anyone reccommend a really good migration agent in the south east UK who
speaks plain english and with whom I can meet for an initial consultation?
2)How many years work experience does one need for an RPL to be considered in your
chosen applied for profession?
3)Is there a straight forward FAQ anyone has put together which details how to lodge
an application? I have recently got the forms from dima and could do with a helping
hand knowing what i need to do in what order I think!
Really appreciate any help and advice anyone could give please.
thanks
Al

Re: Newbie has some dumb questions!
Al,
Can't help with everything I'm afraid but I would recommend Zeno Bolzicco of Ian Harrop and Associates. His number is 020 8540 8448.
BTW, as you are in IT, I thought the forms would be a doddle. Just think of them as lines of code and you should have no problem. Just kidding.
Good luck

Re: Newbie has some dumb questions!
Hi Alex,
1) I would also recommend Ian Harrop and Associates, very resonable rates, we used
them for my parents retirement visa.
2) Believe it to be 4 yrs work experience. I have been thru the process myself a
couple of years ago, what do you do in IT?

Hi Fiona,
Seems like these guys are worth speaking to then and get the thumbs up. I work in Sap

around the world. I managed to get several months sap in sydney duringmy working
holiday visa.
Im just looking into the best options to get me back out there again.

Al,
Still waiting, but quietly confident. Caught in the DIMA 20 month wait.

Have a look at the register at http://www.themara.com.au and you should find details
of a few based in the UK.
It may be cheaper to deal with an Australian agent.

RPL is only really applicable to the Australian Computer Society which recognises
that many IT specialists have no formal qualifications (I think one or two other
professions have this too, but it's mainly the ACS)
If you've no qualification at all in IT I'm not sure how many years is required, but
I think it's at least 7.
If you've got a degree in IT that's assessed as equivalent to an Australian degree
(or if you're a full BCS member) you qualify for an ACS skills assessment straight
away. You still need work experience (12 months in the last 18 before application) to
meet DIMA immigration requirements.
Finally, if you've got a degree with a minor in IT, or a diploma in IT, you may be
able to get an ACS assessment with 4 years experience.
But RPL itself only applies to those without any formal qualifications in IT looking
for an ACS assessment.
