Well here goes my 2 cents... lets see if it can clarify anything....

It is obvious from the announcement that state sponsorship is not SMP. If an occupation is on sponsorship list of a state, it may not necessarily be on SMP. Think of it as old SOL and CSL when these were alive together. That is, to me it seems that state sponsorship would be the skills required by the state, and SMP would be skills immediately or critically required by states..

Schedule 3 is better if you apply as independent applicant. else wait for state nomination list and get a state sponsorship.

All accountants are in Cat 3 right now, either they have four 7s or not (you can call them lucky) accountant with state sponsorship and later on SMP shall be in cat 2, once the SMP is announced.

Default New Priority advantage for Accountants?

Hi,

I applied for 176 visa(Accountant) in Jan 2010. I am not in CSL hence did not get any intimation till date. With the release of new priority, I am at Schedule 3.Would that have any advantage in terms of processing time or I still have to wait till 2012?

No clarity in this from anybody at DIAC..

You will definitely have priority over those 219 occupations that are not on SOL anymore... when you were told about 2012 wait, they must (in my opinion) have considered all occupations before estimating the time... so logically, it would not be that long now....

I don't believe so. Schedule 2 is only available for international students under transitional arrangements as per the FAQs
If you haven't already applied or are not a current student then only schedule 3 applies until SMPs are available.

I am quoting you lines from Schedule 2 pdf file from header.

"""This list applies to applications made on or before 31 December 2012 for a Subclass 885 (Skilled-Independent), 886 (Skilled – Sponsored), or Subclass 487 (Skilled – Regional Sponsored) visa by an applicant who held a Subclass 485 visa on 8 February 2010 or had applied for a Subclass 485 visa that was not finally determined on 8 February 2010, and may nominate an occupation on the current SOL or the new SOL that commences from 1 July 2010.
This list also applies to applicants who held a student visa in subclasses 572, 573 and 574 on 8 February 2010 and who apply for subclass 485 visa on or before 31 December 2012"""

This mean it doesn't apply to Students only but to Subclass 885 (Skilled Independent) which I am asking.

Apologizes in advance if I miss understood anything.

Yes. But there are a few exceptions which are mentioned as:

" Applicants with a nominated occupation of Computing Professional (nec), Hospital Pharmacist and Retail Pharmacist, who have already been allocated a case officer, will be contacted directly by their case officer to advise processing arrangements."

All other applications will be effected.

I agree to this point, but my case is final decision pending as only my wife's PCC was to be submitted which I did last week. But I have not yet heard anything from my case officer regarding how and when my case will be taken care as per priority changes. I am quite worried now.
