Default Mental Health Nurse on 457 ?

Hi I'm trying to understand the process for getting a work visa 457 and how that differs from a permanent residence visa.

My wife and I + 2 mini consumers migrated here to Sydney 2 years ago as permanent residence, so we are pretty clear on what we went through. My father inlaw and his wife are considering jobs and options with a view to come to Oz for a few years while the UK picks up and at the same time look at it as being a bonus as they get to be close to my wife and kids.

To that end Mother in law is 46 and a mental health nurse specialising in aged care, a job which she has been doing in the NHS for the last 20years and since August has been doing in the private sector. She has contacted a few job agencies and might be keen to progress these so I'm trying to understand the process and durations so I can support her.

Does she need to get her skills accessed?
or
Does she just need her Qualifications validated? If so how long should this take and is it initiated by the sponsor as part of her visa?

Does she need to deal with nursing agencies or does she need to go direct to employers?

Any help or info would be welcomed.

Thanks

Steve

It may be possible for her to get a PR visa if she can find someone to sponsor her.

She will need her qualifications assessed by AHPRA in order to register and practice.

Mental health nurses are like Hen's teeth so she should take advantage of that.

There is no need to go through a nursing agency....just contact a few MH services and send CV.....should have no problem in finding a job.

http://www.profco.com/ helped me find a full time mental health position in NSW. They are an official recruiter for NSW Health and always seem to have plenty of jobs, could be worth contacting them, they also help with visa's etc
