No, a family member cannot sponsor without you meeting the other required criteria.

You are really best speaking to a MARA registered migration agent for your options and to clear your questions up. Many will do a free or low cost first consultation and if he's nearing 45 it might be worthwhile to spend a few pounds on professional advice.

Sorry to say that family sponsorship helps less than state sponsorship (or used to) and again you need to qualify for a visa first. Also I think it needs to be a fairly close family member. There are exceptions for very close family members (like when all a parents children have migrated already).

I think you need to do free consultation with a migration agent for a definite answer but by the sound of things you may be struggling to find a valid visa path and you need to know for sure, most of us here are not experts, I'm only going by what I found out when I was applying for my visa.

Also - take a look here - http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ this should tell you if you could qualify for a visa.

If you do not have the requisite recent work experience then you are ineligible for any skilled migrant visa, whether it is state sponsored, fmaily sponsored or independent.

The only option that you have is the one your other agent already told you, employer sponsored, but finding an employer sponsor is going to be extrmeely difficult.

Thanks so much for all the information you have all given me it was really helpful specially the visa wizard site, that has great information. We can only at this stage go for the employer sponsor visa and as you all said its seems out of our reach have any of you heard about agents who find employer's who are looking for trades? I have heard they charge a grand or more to do this for you including finding a place to rent in the locality, open a bank account, meet you at the airport ect...

AFAIK it is illegal in Australia to charge someone for finding them a job.

hi there

sorry, i dont get on BE now as much as i used to.

Im a plasterer by trade and had my visa granted as a plasterer. There are a lot of hurdles when you apply like is your husband qualified like NVQ111 at least. the old pathway 4 which allowed an applicant purely on proved RPL (recognised prior learning) has now been abolished.
The first step would be your TRA trade assessment and for wet trades this means sending quals and experience, employers references even letters from customers.
If you pass the TRA then it runs along same guidelines as any other applicant. Meds PCs etc.

The ENS for trades as far as i know in PERTH and suburbs is non existent. The way things run here are that you go self employed with an ABN number and then they employ you.

just as a final note to your husband. The methods used in australia vary immensely dependant on which state your in. north and east use a lot of gyproc but in WA its all sand & cement and white set and the way these are applied and evened is very different than using browning and multi-finish in the UK. Its like being an apprentice again. no skimming over here its setting . please feel free to message me and ask any trade relevant questions.

Wayne

Hello Wayne, my partner has already been assessed by the tra and has all his certs for same. He has great skills in his trade and wouldn't, I don't think, find it a problem to adapt to what you have said about the way its done in Australia. So you mean that he would become self employed if we got there and then work for someone as a subbie? Its only through bad luck that he was laid off before we had all our paper work and application ready to lodge. There are some agents who specialise in obtaining employment for people like my partner and they charge a grand or more for the service, like I said in my last thread they set you up with a bank account, a place to rent and have someone meet you at the airport when you arrive. Have you heard of such a service? They claim to work closely with recruitment agencies in major cities in Australia??????????????? Thanks for you reply

So what these agents are is a settlement agent, not an employment agent. All they do is find you a short term furnished rental (www.stayz.com.au), meet you at the airport (all the major airports have shuttle services and car rental agencies) and set you up with a recruitment agent (www.seek.com.au www.careerone.com.au)? You would be wayyyyyy better off to save your 1000 pounds and do those things for yourself. Unless they are guarenteeing you a job when you get here you can do all of that for nothing.

Yes he is saying that if he doesn't get a job for my partner then he wont take the final amount, we only pay the full amount if he is successful in gaining employment for him........ it seems our only way forward is a sponsorship and they are soooo hard to come by it seemed to make sense when we where talking to him but of course we needed to find out if others had used such a service and was it OK.......... we have everything in order but the 12months out of 24 employment its sooooooooooo frustrating that its not taken into consideration that he worked 25years before that!!!!!!!!

And what would be the final amount versus the upfront amount?

Personally I would not trust anyone who wants money up front to find me a job.

I spend a lot of time in the immigration forum, I feel that if this were a viable option it would be discussed rather more than it is.

my advice would be forget anybody telling you they will get a job for your partner and certainly dont part with £.

by all means use a reputable agent (MARA registered) as i did. It is not hard at all to find work as a plasterer once your here, its the visa thats hard to get. There are countless construction jobs on offer around perth and suburbs so that isnt the problem. Speak to a good agent and they will give you your options but i would forget about handing out money up front for a job offer. Theres too many parameters ie the company employing you needs to have over a certain amount of workers and been in business for 2 years etc etc. I tried to get a sponsor on a visit to Oz last November but quickly realised that the employers dont know what it is and arent interested.

I'm with Cresta on this......

IF he's "self -employed" then he cannot be "unemployed" without winding up the business...... he is just between jobs.

"under employed" yes but "unemployed" no

I suppose he could be "self unemployed"
