looking for a sponsorship in plastering in auzzie

Hello all, Is there anyone out there who is looking to sponsor a plasterer? My partner is a plasterer for the last 25years and we are looking to emigrate to Australia we have one daughter who is 9years and think this would be a good time for her to adjust as she is young enough. If any one has any information on the sponsorship visas we would love to hear it or any advice in general would be great. :)

Hi Dolly and welcome to BE,

I was wondering if you have thought about skilled migration, from memory plasterer is on the list (although please check). If you apply for skilled migration you would not need an employer sponsor. I say this because truly, I think the chances of finding sponsorship are very slim. It is not unheard of of course, but it is unusual for most professions to find employer sponsorship from overseas but particularly the tradies.

Good luck.

Hay thanks for replying to my thread, the reason we cant go for a skilled migration visa is because my partner is out of work at the moment due to the current economic down turn and he needs 12months employment in the last 24 months in his trade to continue with our application and we have been told by our agent that in order to proceed with the application we need a sponsorship or job offer from an employer in Australia.......we have come up against a brick wall because of this.:(

Ok I see the issue Dolly. Your agents advice was correct but in theory, the practice is a different matter. I personally would be inclined to put the plans on ice for a while, build up experience again in UK and then try again.

Sorry I know that is a bit negative but it is just my opinion, I am not one of those that ever thought I need to get to Australia at whatever cost.

Getting sponsorship for tradespeople is very difficult. He can give it a go, but i wouldnt hold out for it.

Self employed have to provide tax forms and proof of their employment. While 'getting creative' might sound good in theory, in practice it's declaring something which is not true. i.e. visa fraud. Something I thought was kind of frowned upon here.

You can be self employed & not turn over a huge profit, nothing fraudulent about that. Being underemployed is different to being "out of work" As I said you just need to be creative. It's certainly not visa fraud for gods sake, it's pointing out that there is no specific income bracket that you have to achieve as a self employed person.
Ergo: it's better to be self employed than unemployed.

How you can read visa fraud into that is beyond me, maybe you need to lighten up a little:rolleyes:

Even if self employed I think you'd need to provide some sort of proof to DIAC and I also seem to remember that the 12 months experience in the last 24 rule means you need to have worked the equivalent of full time.

Based on what I've read on here its going to be difficult for a trade to get employer sponsored, its more common for medical and some technical professions and even for them it can be problematic.

Whether they turn over a huge profit or not, the fact is that the OP's partner would have had to prove he was working on a full time basis by providing tax documents and I've seen case officers ask for references from clients of self employed people. In order to apply for a visa you do need to have worked 12 of the last 24 months in the nominated occupation. Full time.

So, yes, saying you have done something which you haven't done is visa fraud. Lighten up? I think maybe you might want to not tell the OP to do something illegal.

Thanks guys for all your comments, My partner will be 45 next year that's why we are looking to do it now, we only have till then to apply. But I've heard that there are state sponsorships in Victoria and Canberra for the trades, have any of you any news on that?:D

Re: looking for a sponsorship in plastering in auzzie

My info is a bit out of date and hopefully someone will be along who can answer exactly but when I was applying for my visa last year you could only apply for state sponsorship if you qualified for a visa in the first place, it just helped you get the visa granted faster.

Re: looking for a sponsorship in plastering in auzzie

Then is it a job offer that can get us through without the 12months previous employment, rather than the sponsorship? Can a family member no matter how distant sponsor us with out the previous employment?:)
