Question LIVING ALLOWANCE

Hi Folks

I hope to be heading out November on a 457visa does anyone know any info on the working away from home allowance ie. How to do I apply and roughly how much is this allowance?

Thanks in advance

You need to agree this with your employer, as he has to administer this through the payroll. So you need to get your employer to say in your employment contract that you will get LAFHA (Living Away From Home Allowance).

As for "how much": LAFHA has two elements, the food component and the accommodation component. The food component is fixed. The accommodation component isn't fixed but must be "reasonable".

A good explanation is here:

(Scroll down to read about the food and accommodation components.)

Get your employer to put LAFHA into your contract and then sort out the amounts when you're there and have a rental.

The reasonable rent component is usually the rent that you are paying.
