IT jobs in Melbourne
Hi,
Is it easy to get an IT job in Melbourne?
I have been here for like 3 weeks and NO luck Yet!
I specialise in .NET
An ideas how to get one or are there any TRICKS?
Or maybe my CV isn't good enough all i just noticed is that you have to call them.
Things are quite slow
Advice!!

you might want to try Canberra as there are a lot of Federal Govt. Jobs... most of which are .NET
the contract market is mostly in sydney.
your CV shouldnt run more than 3 pages and keep calling them!
if possible take your agent out for a coffee (or tea if he is a brit)...

Can a new migrant easily apply for a federal govt. job? I asked so because I read in an old thread that you need to be an Oz citizen to get in. Do correct me if I'm wrong... many thanks.
O BTW, we're hoping IT would still bounce in the MODL...just a wish!!!!
Cheers,

I think I read too that non-citizens can take state gov jobs but not federal.

It is logical to believe that a non-citizen cannot work in jobs which need Security Clearance.
If a job doesnt require Security Clearance I am sure a Residence Permit holder can work on it.
Any job that is advertised in jobnet, seek, mycareer etc will definitely mention the requirement of a Security Clearance if necessary. This is my experience of working in Australia.

Re: IT jobs in Melbourne
The problem in Ozy or NZ is the same, there is nothing to do with your
skill........
Even if you are so genius and created another version of Linux, nobody
cares...
They (employeer) always feel unconvinient with new comers from overseas...
They are afraid you are not seeking long term employment........
so better find some Ozieeees or kiwis to be your referees..... and remember
they don't like over confident candidates....they like to be listened!.
good luck

I have an IT job with the fed govt (70k - mostly SQL work) - I'm in
Newcastle but spent 6 months in Melbourne a couple of yrs ago. Yes
you do have to be an Oz citizen, & it took me a long time to get this
cushy job, so you can't have it....
