Default IXP Work and Live visa, has anyone tried this?

Hi All
I have just joined, I am actively looking to migrate to Adelaide, I have sold my house etc and am ready to go, I am looking at visa options and leaning towards a 457 sponsored route however I have spoken with this company called IXP and they have offered a "Work and Live" visa option where they have network of employers and they will send out the details of what I want and secure employment and take care of the 457 visa side of things etc. The costs for this is £2k (plus visa cost) which is alot but as its difficult to find sponsored IT jobs I was thinking it may be a option, has anyone else tried this route or heard of this type of thing? I have done some research on IXP and they seem to be affiliated with Global Visas who have a bad reputation. its the work and live thing I wanted to query as I doubt very much I will go with IXP as Global visa have such a bad name.

I have never heard of a "work and live" visa and in fact I am pretty sure there is no such thing. In any case from what you have said, all they are going to do is take your money and then apparently find you a job and a 457 visa.

I have a rule. Never pay anyone who says they will find you a job. If only life were that easy eh?

If you want to migrate, why are you looking at 457 visas, this is a temporary visa, little more than a work permit and definitely is not migrating. Look into skilled migration, either yourself or with a decent migration agent.

hi, thanks for the reply, yeah I am pretty much of the same opinion. The 457 route may be my only option as I am may not be on the the skilled list. Plus I was under the impression I could apply for permanent residency after a couple of yrs on a 457

If your occupation is not on the skilled occupation lists then you cannot get a 457 visa either. So first thing to do is to check the lists again and see if it is there.

Yes, a lot of people think they can apply for permanent residency after a couple of years on a 457. Complete myth. After two years on a 457 you are exempted from having to do a skills assessment for an employer sponsored permanent visa. But you would need to have a willing sponsor and meet the criteria for that visa.

Hi
My occupation is on the CSOL so i was under the impression that although I cannot get a skilled visa via the skilled list as I am on the CSOL I can get a 457.
Thanks for the info about residency I will look into that

Well yes you can in that case, but you said it was not in the skills list.. the CSOL is one of the two skills lists. So if your occupation is on the. CSOL it is on the skilled lists.

So this means that you can get either an employer sponsored visa or you can get a skilled migrant visa, the 190, if you can secure a state sponsor. Have you looked into that? What is your occupation (can you use the code and wording as per the CSOL).

Hi Fraherg, I was the same as you last week and posted something similar earlier this week! I too want to move to Adelaide and contacted IXP, they mentioned the exact same to me.

I did a bit of research and decided not to go with them. When they gave me a callback they were very pushy and sales-y, it really put me off. They also said, when I mentioned I was concerned about all the costs building up, and I quote "oh don't worry about that, people always struggle, so just pay bit by bit when you can, don't worry about it". Alarm bells rang and I ended the call straight away.

Be very wary of paying someone to find you a job. If you're looking for an agent to help with the visa process I would recommend Visa Go, they've been so helpful to me and they have good reviews online if you want to do a search on them.

Unfortunately I've just found out that I don't qualify as I don't meet the criteria under the CSOL so I'm looking at other options now.

Good luck to you!

You can look up requirements at a high level if you search for the occupation on www.immi.gov.au and you would be able to find more details on the ACS website, ACS is the body that carries out skills assessments for IT occupations.

I think you really should follow up on this idea, I would imagine your chances of finding sponsorship in these occupations would be quite slim.

Although my occupation is on the list (Sales and Marketing Manager 131112) I checked the assessment website, AIM, who have some very specific requirements on seniority, delegation etc which you have to meet in order to pass.

The most appropriate occupation type on the list for me then would be Marketing Specialist 225113 but it can only be sponsored by a state government, but no states will currently sponsor it, so there is no visa pathway for that occupation just now.

I'm really, really gutted but I'm still planning on moving somewhere this year so I'll hopefully get there eventually, just need to keep checking the list.
