I don't get why anyone would write in their "second best" English because it is only a forum. It doesn't save time.
And if it's true then it just gives other users the wrong impression so they will always give the 'wrong' answer. Imo if he speaks as he writes then the score is correct. If he's being lazy and therefore not practicing his English correctly but speaks excellent English then he has to put up with the replies he gets.

Living in the US for about 10 years now and I have learnt that there is no correlation between speaking and writing. Lots of Americans who speak English very well have terrible writing skills (I used to wonder how can you speak correctly and write with such poor grammar?). I have seen this at all levels at my work place. Just my 2 cents. Contrary to Americans, Indians have the opposite problem, we write pretty well but don't speak as well. But I don't believe that the difference in score will be that much anyways. You can for sure try to do a remark. I did my test here in the US and got 8.0 in the speaking, so if you can speak well they will mark you high. Remember that this test was designed to test people from non English speaking background.

No correlation between speaking and writing? *No* correlation? I seriously doubt that.

I did mention grammatical errors, but I also mentioned the general flow of the writing and it was more the syntax than the grammar that seemed flawed and to me, this would explain the IELTS results.

You should come here to the US and you will be shocked. I am not from an English speaking country and I can confidently say that I can write better than most of the people I have worked with here in the US.
