How far will $100k AUD take me?
I use to live in Melbourne and I'm thinking of returning to Australia
but it probably would make sense to go to Sydney since that seems to
be where the jobs are at least what's available in the IT field.
Anyway, does anybody have any estimate as to what a decent apartment
will rent for in a above average area? Compare say to Toorak Rd in
Melbourne where I lived when I was in University. I think I paid
around $650AUD then for a large comfortable furnished studio just up
from Toorak Village but that was 1989.

I'm certain the price of real estate has blown out in most parts of the country and particularly on the east coast with Sydney baring the brunt of the highest increases. Having said that, I don't think this has affected renting a great deal but I am sure due to inflation and such the cost is surely higher than $650 a month and especially in Toorak.
