I meet the business entrepreneur criteria for New Zealand but not quite for Australia, not yet anyways. New Zealand by itself impresses me, but I'd like to leave the door open to Australia as well.

If I obtained a residence visa in New Zealand, is it pretty easy to relocate to Australia? I've heard of some sort of immigration partnership but don't have much idea of it, or whether it applies to people who are only residents and not citizens.

You will need to get Citizenship in NZ before you can move permanently to Australia.

Becoming a New Zealand citizen would allow you access to the subclass 444 visa which allows New Zealanders to live and work in Australia indefinitely although crucially it will always remain a temporary visa and therefore does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship. Naturalisation as a NZ citizen requires at least five years' residency.

No. This visa carries no weight in Australia at all.

As has been said by others, New Zealand citizens are allowed to move to Australia as temporary residents, perpetually.

Most who do this get pissed off eventually about their temporary status and start whinging about their situation, and how the Australian government is being racist and discriminatory etc etc.
