Does family already there help?
Hi everyone,
We are considering a move to Aus, we have been over to visit my wifes
brother who moved over 3 years ago and have looked around at jobs and
contacted some recruitment agencies who are looking for positions for me.
I was wondering whether having family out there affects the application for
a visa and what tyupe of application would be best for us
Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,
You can qualify for a number of skilled visa categories, depending on your
circumstances. The basic ones are independent subclass 136, skilled
Australia linked subclass 138 (sponsored by, eg, your wife's brother) and
skilled regional linked subclass 139 (sponsored by your wife's brother if he
happens to live outside the major metropolitan zones in Qld, NSW or WA).
There are other options, such as the STNI and skill matching visas which are
discussed here, but they do not seem to be of any great benefit to you and
they are essentially a lottery, anyway.
What you should do about this is visit www.immi.gov.au and navigate to the
skilled migration pages where you can learn the basics. Many agents, myself
included, have information about skilled migration on our websites, and some
agents, again including us, offer free online assessments. It's important
to be careful in obtaining an online assessment as many agents charge as
much as A$400 for what is essentially a 10 minute job in most cases.
I hope that gets you started.
Cheers
