Default Deutscher Fachhochschulabschluss und NZQA

Hallo

Sorry for posting on german, but the following questions can be
answered only by german speaking people.

Informatik.

Bin fuer alle Hinweise dankbar.

Not personally but someone I know recently went through NZQA process.

1. No, if the qualification is already on the NZIS list of automatically recognised qualifications (see under www.immigration.govt.nz). If not there, yes, it must be assessed by NZQA.

2. Yes, if degree equivalence is rated high enough by NZQA, we are talking more than a standard 3 year bachelor's degree here, maybe a 4 year university course to a higher level than normal on a 3 year course.

3. Don't know.

Prost - Don

Thanks for your answers, i have been reading anything on the NZIS and
NZQA page, but before i start to get my qualification assessed i want
to be sure that it is necessary and maybe get some experience from
other.

The NZIS list says something like "german qualifications are not
listed anymore on this list." and i could not find any other
informations. Does this mean i have to assess it by NZQA :-(?

A german Fachhochschul takes 3 year with lectures, 1 year practice
(normally in an external company accompanied by a professor) and
finally a diploma thesis (half year). So it is maybe a bit more than a
bachelor. My questions is, is it possible to get 11 point for this,
and if not if is it possible to get some credit in form of
workexperience for the practicesemesters.

Another question, can somebody give me a short description, how an
qualification assessment through the NZQA looks like ?

Thanks in advance
Tobias

1. If qualification is not listed, you have no choice, you must get it assessed by NZQA.

2. 11 points is possible but NZQA are notoriously 'mean', ie not generous with the points - you are more likely to get 10 points if it is a 'first degree'. But someone posted they got 11 points for a 4 year UK double honours first degree. You might get lucky as your degree sounds quite rigorous and was 4.5 years. Unfortunately work experience as part of the degree course is not normally counted as part of (post-degree) work experience. But you *could* try to get it counted as work experience - talk to your case officer once you start the application process.

By the way, you can lodge your PR application now if you like with a covering letter saying that your NZQA result will follow.

3. It is a single sheet of NZQA headed paper detailing which qualification has been assessed, its NZ equivalence, and therefore your points total.

4. My advice would be that you will have to apply to NZQA anyway so might as well do it now - you never know, you might get the 11 points. You need to back up your proof of degree with marksheets, course content etc (which your faculty should help provide you with) plus any references you might get which show your degree was to a higher level than most (3 year NZ) first degrees.

Cheers - Don
