I was working in Australia on 457 (granted on oct 2005 valid till 2009). On March 07, I quit the job and moved to Amsterdam. My employer informed me that my visa is been cancelled after I left.
I found a new contarct in sydney and new visa was applied on oct 2007 for which I am still waiting the decision. Last week while I was checking the online status of my new visa application, I found a link to "view entitlement details". Upon clicking the link, in a new window I found details of my last 457 visa (that was granted on 2005), with status showing "In Effect" but the visa grant number is different than what is in on the visa sticker of my passport.
I called my ex-employer to confirm that DIAC was informed with change of status and visa was definitely cancelled.
How come details of my last visa got mingled with my this application ? Potential bug in DIAC IT system for checking online visa status?
Can I assume that new visa is been granted and thats my new visa grant number? Absolutely clueless .. and puzzled !!!

If you still have a 457 in effect, can you get another one??

PS: What makes you think that the numbers must match? Also, it may be that your status hasn't been updated by authorities yet.
