Default Computing Professional - not elsewhere categorised!!!!!!!

Hi everyone -

My husband and I have been contemplating emigrating for a while and have been torn between Oz and Canada.

He filled in one of the on line assessments for Oz using his job as the skilled worker as he is an IT professional and we scored enough for a 175 visa. However we put him as category "Computing Professionals - not elsewhere classified" as he is not an expert in any particular software. He has however been working for a blue chip company (banking sector) in IT for over fifteen years, most recently as a Problem Manager for 4 years and currently as a Technical Recovery Manager (since Sept). Accordingly his skill set is more broad based albeit still very techy.

Does anyone have any advice as to whether we have categorised him in the right place (hope so - but if not would rather know now!)? He has had no formal education since leaving high school but has done various quals since like Prince 2 and ITIL. Presumably we will need to go down the ACS RPL route. Does anyone know what level of quals/ experience they would expect?

I have had a look at their web info but any advice from people who have actually been through the process would be great.

Many thanks

ACS does recognize certain certificates on the same level as an IT diploma, which means you can skip RPL and just doe the "qualifications + 6 years experience", but I'm not sure if either Prince2 or ITIL is included in that list. If he wants, he can do MCSE, which definitely allows him to skip RPL.

Seen as though he has 15+ years worth of experience, as long as at least 8 of those were at a professional level, he'll be fine.

You can e-mail ACS to get an up-to-date list of certificates they recognize.

Recognized vendor qualifications are posted in the FAQ section of the skills assessment process on the ACS website. Mind, ACS changes their RPL guidelines at the end of this month - so either do it very very quickly, or wait until the dust settles and apply under new regulations.
