Hi all, complete newbie here so apologies I have no idea what I’m doing! 😬
My husband and I have been talking of emigrating to Australia for a long time and have finally decided to see if we could do it. I’m a qualified accountant and he has been an IT trainer for 18 months but before that a police officer for over 10 years. We have 2 young children.
I think I would qualify based on my skills however am thinking of using a migration agent to do the free points check and then if applicable to make the process easier.
Has anyone used the agents before and could recommend a good one?
Also would be grateful if anyone could give a rough guide as to how much they saved before they started the process. We have around £15,000 saved. We have quite a bit of equity in our house but that wouldn’t come through until the sale, which I wouldn’t want to do until the last minute or once we’re out there. Just not sure if £15k is enough or if I should continue saving for another year before putting in an EOI.
thanks x

Only skilled experience counts for points, so make sure you make that adjustment.
After that, you need to confirm that you could meet the requirements of a skills assessment. Accountants can be assessed by CPAA - https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/ - or IPA - https://www.publicaccountants.org.au/
On top of all that, accountants are subject to pro-rata arrangements as they are over subscribed, so only those with the highest points are getting invites, and there are long queues of EOI's behind them. You can check invitation rounds on SkillSelect - https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/busi/...rs/skillselect - but the last round was exhausted with 80 point EOI's. You cannot claim points for English without sitting IELTS or other recognised English test, but to reach the points required you will need this.

Thanks for the info. I’ve started the skills assessment so hopefully that will make it clearer as to whether it is possible for me.

Don't pay for a skills assessment until you know you are actually eligible for a visa to begin with. That's some free advice from a Registered Agent!

Yes, +1 re Richard's comments.
There is a relative oversupply of accountants seeking visas under the general skilled visa program at the moment.
The results of the most recent invitation round for subclass 189 visas are here: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Worki...ion-round.aspx
Note that accountants required at least 80 points to secure an invitation to apply for a visa.
Under the State sponsored subclasses (190 and 489) at this time you are only looking at sponsorship from the NT.
Other States might open up again from the start of the new program year on 1 July 2018. NSW has been open to sponsoring accountants in the recent past, but again this is a competitive scenario in which the State selects individuals for sponsorship based on the points claimed.
Good luck!
