Smile Citizenship for child ???

Hi,

I have a question which i thought of asking in this forum regarding my son's citizenship. This may be a bit of a foolish question, but thought of asking from the forum.

I came to Australia July 2010 and my wife came to Australia Nov 2010 with my son. I'm planning to apply for citizenship after July this year as i fulfill residency requirements. So i want to know whether i can include my son in my citizenship application when i apply after July 2014 or does he need to wait for 4 years period like an adult. My son born in Feb 2010 in overseas and came to Aus Nov 2010 with my wife.

Is there any difference if myself and wife get the Citizenship in 2 seperate times of the year ? I mean i apply July 2014 and wife apply Nov 2014.

Thanks in advance.

I think he needs to wait, he could apply with your wife. Or why don't you just wait and then all do it together.

Not sure but I thought children under 16 could be included with any parent and do not need to meet the requirement of residence. But for the sake of a few months it might be nice to do it all together.

Wait until November 2014 and do it all together. Be a lot easier to be honest.

A lot easier and a lot nicer too. I can't imagine why I would go to a separate citizenship ceremony to Mr BS, not for the sake of three months anyway.

The residence requirement does not apply to children under 16 who have PR and are living with a parent who is Australian (or becoming Australian).

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but when we went for our citizenship interview we found out that the 4 years is from date of Visa Grant (I can only talk about a PR Visa) not from the date of entry into Australia, so if you and your wife were on the same visa grant you can all apply at the same time, may be worth checking out, we did our citizenship 2 years ago so it may have changed!

Cheers,

You are definitely wrong. Date of visa grant does not come into it.

It's from date of first arrival on your PR visa.

Here's a calculator to determine when you'll be eligible
