Default Changing a Holiday Visa to a Work Visa

Hi

Could anyone tell me if you can go to Australia on a holiday visa and then apply for a work visa whilst there.

I know this is possible in New Zealand - if you go and visit and get offered a job you can get your work visa and fly out and fly back in - can you do the same in Australia?

The reason for my question is that my husband has been offered a job in Australia but the company can not sponsor him - they have told him if he can get to Australia then the job is his and they will help us apply from there.

Is this possible or would the time scale and requirements be the same as if you applied from the UK?

We can't apply for the Working Holiday visa as he is over 30!

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nikky

How would it help him being in Oz on a holiday visa? It can take MONTHS to get a skilled visa, and he wouldn't be able to do any work durin that time.

Why can't this company sponsor him?

Thanks for your reply.

I just wondered if it was the same as New Zealand - i.e. if you go over and get a job you can get a working visa within a couple of weeks.

I guess this is not the case in Australia?

We will just have to wait and hope that the TRA hurry up with the Pathway D as this appears to be our only option.

If they think you are planning to stay on, a person arriving as a tourist can be refused entry on arrival.

There are some restrictions on switching status to another visa onshore (if you get past immigration).

All this assumes someone would be interested in sponsoring you and that you're ok with all the risks and costs of temporary status.
