Canadian Police Check for Oz Visa
I have been advised that I will need a police check certificate from
Canada. I lived there for about a year in 1988-1999. I'm surprised that
they need to go that far back (not that I have anything to worry
about). Can anyone confirm this is definately required for such a long
time ago, and how I would go about obtaining the certificate?

Yes, a police check is required for any country that you've lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
You can get more information on Canadian police check here (Form 47P):
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/47p.pdf
Look for Canada on page 4.
All the best!

Apologies I mistyped the dates they should have read 1989 - 1990 i.e.
15-16 years ago. Are you saying in this case that I do not need this
check?

Hi Derrick!
Although I'm no expert, it is unlikely that you'll need the police check for Canada if you stayed there more than 10 years ago. It's actually stated in Form 47P, paragraph 3.
Assuming that you are not born in Canada and not a citizen...
