Hi, looked everywhere for this answer but can't find it!:banged:

I have my WH Visa, (subclass 417) when i applied i put for end of Feb but due to circumstances I can now go earlier and really want to get out of UK asap, does anyone know if I can bring forward my date with out too much aggro or if not can I enter Australia before say on a normal holiday/tourist visa for a month until my WH Visa kicks in????

Normally, if you apply for another Visa, that will nullify any existing granted Visa!

Did you get any information from DIAC upon the grant of the Working Holiday visa? Are you able to check the status of the Visa online to verify same?

Sorry, don't have specific knowledge of subclass 417 Visa but be careful about applying for a holiday / etourist Visa in the meantime. Hopefully others can shed more light

I agree with Rhubarb. If you get a tourist visa it will cancel the WHV. I am not confident you would be able to bring the date of WHV forward to be honest, these kind of visa things seem to be quite rigid.

If you want to get out of UK sooner rather than later, I would think about a bit of travel around Asia first maybe.

Thanks for your help, that's what I thought, wasn't looking too good, I looked on the visa site and it didn't say anywhere about entering before etc.... Oh well, not worth it if it's going to cause problems.

So any tips or advice on where to go before???I'm going on my own and bit nervous about it, so any friendly places??I have been thinking of Thailand, Bali or China????Any thoughts???

I took 6 months off a few years ago and travelled around Asia. South East Asia is a nice easy back packers trail, i.e. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. I actually started off with a month in China, it is very interesting, but a lot more challenging for a single traveller than the South East Asian countries.

Some Aussie visas say 'must not enter after' rather than giving a date when it starts. If your visa says something like that it may be worth emailing an overseas mission whether you can enter early. Who knows.

By the way - if you want an idea of what to do before Australia - I've always wanted to do the transiberian train trip and continue to Singapore then try to take ships as far south as possible before flying to Aus. That sounds fun, although of course not in one go.

Yup, I don't think WHVs have an 'must not enter before' date - should be 'must not enter after' like other visas - my WHV certainly was.

If you wish to travel to Australia on an ETA but already hold a Working Holiday visa which you have not yet used for travel to Australia, you will need to have your Working Holiday visa cancelled before making an ETA application. Otherwise, if you in arrive in Australia holding both visas, your Working Holiday visa will be activated. You should cancel your Working Holiday visa before making the ETA application because cancelling your Working Holiday visa will also automatically cancel the ETA. To have your Working Holiday visa cancelled, contact the Working Holiday visa processing centre.

This advice also implies that the visa must have a 'must not enter after' date rather than a 'must not enter before'.

As far as I remember from my WHV, it only contains the granted date, and then the latest date for initial entry, which is one year after the granted date.
The visa is then valid for one year from the initial entry date.

I think you are talking about the date of proposed travel to Australia, which you had to give during application for the WHV.
But if you now have received your visa, and it's valid and it does not contain any restriction mentioning something like "must not travel before", then I can see no problem in arriving a month earlier ...

Yes I would agree with above all visas are valid from grant date but activated only when you enter Oz.

Read the grant letter carefully.
