Australian Citizenship for my child
Hi,
I have AUS PR visa from Dec 2009, came back to my country after 2months. Previously stayed on 457 visa for two & half year.
Now planning to get medicare & deliver my baby in Australia on Feb 2012 to get its Australian Citizenship!
Is it possible? As i am staying here from past 2 yrs will be able to get medicare & baby bonus? & most importantly will my baby become OZ citizen?
Any clarification in this matter is appreciated!!
Thanks.

Are you planning to return to settle in Australia in February or are you intending to go only for the birth of the child?

Then in that case, no you won't get the baby bonus. http://www.centrelink.gov.au/interne..._residence.htm And why the hell should you? You have not lived or paid taxes in Australia for the past 2 years so why should the Australian taxpayer fork over not only Medicare but a baby bonus?

Please be aware that most airlines won't allow you to fly late in pregnancy and may require a doctors letter to allow you on board. Furthermore immigration may ask some questions, maybe not.
Be prepared to spend on accommodation before the birth (a few weeks) and afterwards too. You will also need to find a midwife and get scans before the birth (I'm not sure how much that costs).
Also, what are you going to do if God forbid there are any health issues with the baby and you need to stay for weeks or months?
Citizenship is automatic but the process for the certificate and/or passport may take some time.

You can still get PR for your baby if born in the UK, you can then apply for a child visa.
If born in Oz then yes they will be an Oz citizen by birth and a UK citizen by descent only.
Up to you but I'm not sure about the "just nip to Oz and have a baby" plan TBH

You dont need to go to those lengths. When you return to Australia as a PR then you can just get your child added to your visa then when they have been here 4 years you and they can become citizens.
I do hope you werent suggesting that you were aiming for an anchor baby (is that what they call it?) and just attempting to rort the system.

Clearly not the case with the OP who has a legal right to remain in Australia, and come and go as and when he pleases whilst the "Must Not Enter After" date on his visa remains in the future.
The OP is well within his rights to organize for his child do be born in Australia thereby making that child an Australian Citizen by birth. Why you'd call that as an "attempt to rort the system", I dunno

The call that an "anchor baby" in jurisdictions with Jus Soli where parents who are otherwise present illegally in that jurisdiction give birth to a child (who is by default a citizen of that particular country), making it harder for the parents to be removed from the said country.

Depending on where your home country is you may also need a visa/passport from that country for the child

Re: Australian Citizenship for my child
Thank You all for such a kind & quick responses!!!!
@spottydog:
No..I dont require any visa for my country....If I get Australian Passport for my baby...that is sufficient.
@ALL:
Also, after my baby's birth, what are the procedures to follow to get its Australian Passport? Will I be questioned by DIAC that I am not living in AUS & cause any problem?
Thanks once again.

Yes, I am aware that I need to bare all the expenses before & after my child birth. I will enquire with airlines & immigration if I can fly at that time.
I am thinking to do some casual job to earn few which could support me a bit. If i dont get Medicare, I need to talk to some private health insurance company for my baby delivery expenses. Please suggest If i can do this?
I have a friend there in Sydney, who will help me find a midwife & find an accomodation for me & my mother-in-law!!
I hope everything goes FINE!!!!!! Fingers Crossed!
