All You Civil Engineers read me.....
Apparently Contruction News - (the UK weekly "Jackers Journal") claims that Oz house are offering more points for Civil Engineers at the moment due to the lack of applications in this field. I cannot find anything on the web site for Immigrations, has anyone else got any info on this? Please advise as we are currently on Skilled Migration 2124-11
and have been since feb 02

Just the regular 60 points for civil engineers at the moment - current
MODL does not include them (although it probably should).
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/modl.htm
Do you need the extra points? - you shouldn't if you've already
applied in February.

No we don't need the extra points as we did apply before the level went up, but thought that the more points you obtained migh (only might) get you a better chance.

Workload
Is there a significant increase in Civil Engineering work downunder ?
Two of the largest Civils Contractors are Leightons http://www.leightoncontractors.com.au/ and Thiess http://www.thiess.com.au/ and SMEC the Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation springs to mind as a Civils Consultancy.
You guys probably know that though.

Hi Maggie,
Sounds very much like a gimmick (or a mangled reference to STNI).
Cheers

Re: All You Civil Engineers read me.....
Don't know anything about the additional points on offer but as a
Civil/Structural Engineer I found no problem finding work in
Brisbane/Queensland. There's certainly a shortage here. Getting the first
job is the most difficult as you're an unknown quantity but after a few
months....the world is you oyster.
Now the main problem is finding employees that have an ability to speak (and
write) understandable english.
If you can do that you should have no problems securing work once you get
your PR.
