I havent yet signed up to Go Matilda but as soon as I have my results back Im going to move the process on.
Ive began to collect statements of employment from previous employers and references etc but thats been about it.

Do you know where abouts in Oz youre going? I wanted QLD but apparently the nursing situation out there is dyer
Can I just point out that it's IELTS and not IETLS.

There are 4 tests - Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking - and there is plenty of help on the net.

(you might want to watch your use of apostrophes for the written test )

Yvette,
We haven't made a solid decision as to where we will be going, most likely Perth or South Australia. Having a read through the ANMAC website, I think with care and attention to detail the process is do-able. When is your IELTS test booked for?

Too many abbreviations to get used to in the visa process

I am an australian citizen and have filed all my applications on my own after a while Australia's immigration website is very user friendly and so is this forum. Dont waste your money on agents.

Registered MARA agents are often very valuable as they can help out with more ciomplex issues, especally surrounding medical and character isses. Its not simply a question of filling in forms.

Thanks for all the replies, think I will try on my own, by the looks of things I still need to do all the leg work anyway, but any confusion I will be straight onto an agent! Too much to loose to risk an oversight!

Hi
just joined the forum and site was reading the thread with interest as Ive just begun the process too.
I need to do my IELTS to extra points and need to score 8 or above-as an English nurse with an MSC I was hoping this would be straightforward but it seems the test needs quite a bit of preparation. have you looked into preparation books etc yet and have any recommendations or does anyone in the forum know someone who has achieved a high score- how did they do it???

I did IELTS twice. First time straight from night shift was R8.5; L7.5; W9 and S9 - I also needed all 8's so did it again but took the night shift off this time and got all 9's. No degree here but I am used to writing reports for work. I found a couple of practice bits on line but not a huge amount of preparation - enough to familiarise myself with what the different tests were. Oh and I did Academic both times as I read somewhere that I would only get 8's on this test (wrong but I never checked it as it was easier to get on a Academic test anyway)

Hi Uponahill,
I also needed to score 8s due to being an older nurse. When you register to do the IELTs online it gives you access to further practice papers (or at least this was the case when I sat it last year). I found this useful so that the formats were not new to me on the day.
Good luck,
Bigmac1

Hello, I’ve posted about this before, but I now have a new query.

Another agent got in touch with me this morning (Global Migrate, spoke to them last year). After doing my own research a few weeks ago I found out that I would not be able to apply for a visa under the occupation of Marketing Manager as they have very strict criteria on seniority and delegation so I would not have passed the skills assessment. However, I could apply under the occupation of Marketing Specialist but currently no states are sponsoring it.

I mentioned this to the lady I spoke with at Global Migrate (a really nice woman, not like the pushy agents I’ve spoken with before during my research) and she said that I would still be able to get everything ready and in order for when the states open up their lists again later this year.

Is this really the case? Surely there is no guarantee that the states will open up this occupation? I feel it’s a bit of a risky move but I am so keen to emigrate to Oz that I want to make sure I have exhausted all avenues!

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi Kuv - hang 5 until someone more experienced than I comes along (it's the middle of the night in Oz so you'll probably have to wait a bit) but don't agree to any sales pitch, no matter how nice the woman is! I don't think that anyone can predict which occupations will and won't be on the state's lists and if Global Migrate are going to help you in 'getting everything ready' they sure as hell won't do it for free.

It makes me so mad, unethical companies promising the impossible and messing around with people's lives

Yes you could get everything ready if you wanted. But as you state there is no guarantee that the occupation will be on any list in the future. If it is a cheap skills assessment then it might be Roth doing, but you would have to think hard if it is an expensive skills assessment process.
