Default 457 to 136

Hi

Im having a headache regarding my 136 application:

i arrived in oz on a sponsored 457, asco code as an internal auditor. However i was actually doing the job of an accountant, but as i had not had the results from my last CIMA exam, which i have now passed i could not class myself as an accountant.

I have now passed that last exam and can now be classed as an accountant. DIMA have me down on my 457 as an internal auditor, now i want to apply for my 136, which i must have 12 months experience in last 18 months, but DIMA will know ive been working as an internal auditor.

do i send in job references as an internal auditor, or as an accountant?
Do i tell them that i am now the accountant rather than intenal auditor for my 457?
will 12 months experience as internal auditor be appropriate as evidence for an accountant, both are on the asco list

I would seek the skills assessment as an Accountant from (probably) the ICAA - the skills assessment process for Accountants looks at qualifications only, not work experience.

Assuming this is granted you should be allocated MODL points.

Your recent work experience is in a skilled occupation, and that SHOULD be sufficient to meet the recent work experience requirement of a 136 visa application.

If you would like to discuss further please feel able to telephone my office in Melbourne on 03 8530 7030.

Best regards.

Hi Alan

i sent my skills assessment yesterday to the ICAA, should have this back soon

should i therfore get my employer to sign my reference as an internal auditor in order to conform to my current 457, would i get into trouble if he called ma an accountant, or could i merge the role of internal auditor and accountant in order to play it safe?

The employer should set out the duties of the position you have been fulfilling; I tend to look at these details rather than a job title.

Best regards.
