16 months + yup, still waiting!
G'day sunseekers and others,
Well I'm still here as are many others, waiting patiently. I'm still not
sure if it's a good thing that the applications went from AHC London to
Adelaide.
Has anybody in a similar 'boat' had any requests for medicals and/or police
checks recently?
We've sent off the police checks which should be with us in a months time.
When I get them back I presume I send them straight off to Adelaide?
Sounds a daft question so late in the day I know, but the hubbie put doubt
in my mind, when he asked me if we keep hold of the police checks until both
the medicals and police checks are requested.
Can anybody guide me on this one?
I was hoping that by mid December the requests would be in and there
wouldn't be a problem, but just in case, the little paranoid voice in the
back of my head needs and answer!

You mention that you have sent off for your police checks. I was wondering if you have been asked for these or whether you just went ahead and got them yourself? The thing with getting the checks before you are asked for them is that they are only valid for one year from the date they were processed (by the police) and it's the same with the medicals. Your visa validation date is then taken one year from the earliest date ie if you get the police checks done first then that's the date they give you. Keeping a hold of them won't change the date becuase the date they (Oz) take is the date the police put on them.
We were asked by London in July 2002 for our medicals and police checks. We got these and sent them off towards the end of August 2002. When we got our pre-grant letter saying that we had our Visas our intial entry date was given as 02 August 2003.
I'm not sure if Adelaide are doing anything differently and after waiting that length of time I'm sure it won't be too much longer. I don't know if I've answered your question or just confused you even more but hopefully helped a little. If you want to know anymore please ask and if I can help I will.

Adelaide haven't asked us for anything yet, but just in case the police
checks were requested over the Christmas period, (as you only get 6 - 7
weeks to get them to Adelaide, and the police checks take 6 weeks) we went
ahead with getting them done anyway. We were hoping they would be requested
about that time as that would be roughly 8 - 10 weeks short of the 20 month
deadline! The medicals we weren't too worried about as you have a bit more
time flexibility in arranging them.

hopefully to validate visas in Summer 2003), during my summer hols. All
being well we hope to jet off anytime between Dec 2003 and August 2004.
