applying for both State sponsored and independent skilled migration on the same form
i have sufficient points to apply for the independent skilled
migration and have passed rpl assessment by acs.
to speed my visa processing i am thinking of applying for either SA or
VIC state migration .
in the insytructions it mentions this is particulary suitable for
people who only meet the pool, not pass mark. can i still apply for
this ie. using the first section of the skilled migration booklet form
and yet have the immigration people still consider my application as
normal,if the state people don't nominate me - i want to get it in
anyway before the state nominate me.
basically i want to be considered for both....is this possible or does
applying for state sponsored exclude you from a normal application...
i get the impression that the dima process your application as normal
but will issue a visa quicker if ther state gov give you the nod.

When you apply for Skilled Independent, fill out the Skill Matching
section and you get access to the regional schemes for free. Even if
you have more than the pass mark, you can't lose.
Separately, you should get in touch with the Victoria and SA state
governments - Vic in particular is happy to accept CVs directly, from
what I know.

I just got a generic mass email from Immigration South Australia, describing what SA offers to migrants to SA. So, I would think SA is pretty active in trying to get migrants to settle there.
Nice little disclaimer you got there

Re: applying for both State sponsored and independent skilled migration on the same form
do not foget about the restrictions that are put by these Nominatinf
States like you cant leave the State for atleast two years...though
you might get an airport transfer or a welcome drink in Adelaide (its
in SA) but....you must also think why a particular State wants
you...even when DIMIA does not consider you suitable for PR !!! If
DIMIA thinks you suitable, you should go for General Skilled
Independent rather the STNI.
Any thoughts?

Re: applying for both State sponsored and independent skilled migration on the same form
Since writing this i have seen the form...
on the old dima form you could tick Independent which included a State
Nomination programme but now on the new November form the state
nomination programme is in a seperate category so presumably you have
to wait for the nominaiton first because if you dont get the
nomination you will not also be considered under independent
skilled...

Re: applying for both State sponsored and independent skilled migration on the same form
The new form 47SK looks to be badly drafted and I'm not sure why it's
been done this way.
Legally you apply for a visa class, and get assessed against all the
subclasses.
So if you apply for class BN, you get assessed against both subclasses
136 and 137. Same applies if you apply for class BQ, you get
assessed for both subclasses 138 and 139.
The fact that the form design may suggest otherwise to some does not
alter the law.

It's really a generic email. Not an invitation for STNI or anything like that. They included a soft copy of the RSMS (Regional Skilled Migration Scheme) leaflet as well, which is actually available from their (Immi SA) website I believe. The one good thing from the email is that they (Immi SA) described some of their initial settlement services to me, which I though was a very nice service to publicize. If anything, those services may eventually sway my decision on where (which Oz state) I will settle in, since I have no relatives or family friends in Oz.
If you're really keen on getting a hold of the generic email, send me a private email via BE (I do not permit private messages from BE as I sometimes do not get prompted to read them!) and let me know your email address. I'll forward you my copy then. It's nothing personalized, so it's really something I won't mind sharing - just not plastered on the forum
Cheers,
Peter
