Re: We're in!!
Thank you all for the congratulations and good wishes
Yes, the Chinese were right, 08/08/08 was a lucky day indeed! Don't think we'll ever forget the date....
As for where we're going, we haven't decided yet! Spent 2 months in Christchurch over Christmas 06/07, so feel like we know the place well enough to feel at home pretty much straight away... but every time OH does a job search most of the jobs seem to come up in Auckland.
Reluctant to go there as we'd rather go somewhere smaller, but the truth is that being nearer the diving hotspots makes it more attractive to me! It'd probably be a good idea to go where the jobs are for now, then once we're settled in the country, it should be easier to move somewhere smaller.
We'll see, guess we'd better make a decision yet if we want to go mid October!
Moomoo, can you believe 15th October was the date we were thinking of flying too!? Spooky Are you flying East or West? We want to go West (yes, I know what people say about flying via LAX) so we get double the weight allowance.
Best of luck to those of you still waiting!

Hi
We are flying with Singapore Airlines. We have decided to have an 18 hour stopover in Singapore and have booked a hotel for the night. Hopefully we can do a tour or something too. Seats were filling up fast on the airline, we were hoping to go a couple of days earlier, but couldn't get the seats for the times we preferred.
We enquired with Singapore Airlines regarding baggage allowance and this is what we have just received:
"Thank you for your email regarding migrant baggage allowance to New Zealand.
Passengers emigrating to New Zealand are entitled to double baggage allowance provided they are holding the correct visa.
The visa must be an unused Residence Visa. If you are holding this visa you will be entitled to double baggage allowance on production of the visa at check in.
You can have as many items of luggage as you wish providing no one single item of baggage exceeds 32kgs in weight. This is a health and safety requirement.
Please note if an infant is holding the visa mentioned above, he/she would be allowed only 10 kilos.
If you are not holding the correct visa then you would be allowed only 20 kilos per passenger.
Singapore Airlines policy on cabin baggage allows you to carry one item of cabin baggage only, per passenger, which must not weigh more than 7 kilos, and must not exceed 115cm in dimensions (height + depth + width). Apart from your 7kilos, you can also carry any one personal item as mentioned below :
A lady’s handbag
An overcoat
An umbrella or walking stick
A laptop or notebook computer
A small camera
A reasonable amount of reading material for the flight
Infant’s food for consumption in flight and infant’s carrying basket
Infant’s stroller provided the infant is on board the aircraft.
Also please send us the copy of the visa as an attachment via email so that we can document your reservation accordingly."
We are heading to Auckland and hopefully settling somewhere south-east of Auckland (Howick/Whitford/Botany/Mellons Bay/Cockle Bay, etc)
Good luck with your plans.
Moomoo
