Police Certificate and Migrant Levy
Right, i'm confused
We've only got 4 months until we are in a position to apply for residency so i'm having a look at the immigration requirements to apply under residence from work
How on earth can we get a New Zealand police certificate? I've looked everywhere on the NZ police site, does this document exist???
Secondly are we having to get another police document from the UK despite being in New Zealand for 2 years? It's going to be exactly the same as before (although my caution might have been removed since it's been over 10 years I had that)? I fail to understand why I'd have to provide another one when i've seen I don't have to have another medical?
Thirdly, this migrant levy business - do you have to pay this for someone that was born here? Just because my son is not a NZ resident and has my immigration status, surely I don't have to fork out $155 for a migrant levy for him when he was born in this country?
If anyone has applied through Residence from work, please help!

Re: Police Certificate and Migrant Levy
Congratulations on finally being able to apply
All I could find was this, seems that NZIS do it for you

I can't find anything that says you don't need to unfortunately I had a look under the Administration section of the OM and could not see any exceptions allowed when an application was for residency
The Operations Manual says you will, which does seem unfair given that he was born in NZ so has not physically migrated anywhere.
Maybe pop along to the Chch office and ask directly...
Good luck

It is a mandatory requirement (see R2.40) for first time applicants for a residence class visa aged 17 and over to obtain a police or similar certificate from:
i the applicant's country of citizenship; and
ii each country in which the applicant has lived for 12 months or more (whether on one visit or intermittently) in the last 10 years (but see A5.10.1).
