Medical Examination Process ?

Re: Medical Examination Process ?
I paid £308 but that was 3 years ago. That included examination, bloods and xray.
It's worth phoning around the panel doctors in your area as prices do vary. You could consider travelling further afield as well to reduce costs

At all costs avoid alcohol for a couple of weeks. I forgot and had a glass of wine 2 days before my tests.
I had to go back and repeat some blood tests because of this.
It cost me time off work, and I had to pay again for that test....not to mention a lot of stress......

The NZ appointed med team will advise no alcohol for 48 hours prior to having bloods taken. However the bloods will include a Gamma GT check that will pick up regular abuse of the male 21 units max per week and if so the doc will require you to abstain for 10-14 days and have a repeat GGT test.....which I have just done and am waiting for the phone to ring......

Re: Medical Examination Process ?
I'm paying £180 for my medical and £50 for my xray, the kids are £80 each for their medicals. I'm having to fast for 12hrs before hand. I've been told that we will all have to produce a urine sample at the clinic so be that in mind.
Also be aware that the medical guys need 2 passport photo's and the xray needs one. I'm hoping that they will accept photo copied ones of the passport photos I've got for the police check ? cos £5 a go is a bit much for 4 small photo's.

was just wondering were your'e having your medicals done? There are 6 of us, me, the hubby, our 18, 14, 11, & 10 yr olds. So medicals are going to be a big expense, worth it I know for the right outcome! We have just been selected from the EOI and have been ITA, exciting times xxx
Thanks

lucky for us we live near to Croydon in South London and there is a medical practice that does the medicals just 5-10mins walk away from the hospital that can do the x-rays so all was linked up together between the 2 places.
Wife and kids had there's done 15/10 and when I went Friday 21st their results where already back. Mine should be back mid next week and we have arranged to pick them up.
Where about's are you located???

Re: Medical Examination Process ?
I recall ours cost GBP450 each in the Midlands (Private GP then sent to a BUPA hospital for X-rays). Turnaround was very quick - within a couple of weeks. From reading around costs at the time, this was a little on the expensive side, but I did have a job offer with tight timelines to meet, and this was for a speedy service / appointment.
Regarding Gamma GT - I would certainly abstain from alcohol for a week or two. I wasn't aware of this when I went for medical, and had caned the booze for a week before My GT levels were right on the top limit - one point over, and I may have been asked to go on a detox and return in a couple of weeks. This will only delay the process.... and for the sake of being t-total for a couple of weeks.... it reduces the risk.
As I recall, the blood tests limits for most parameters are approx 50% tighter than what the NHS would class normal....
Good luck.
Ed.

We are in North Lincolnshire so quite a way from Croydon. Think the best thing I can do is ring round for quotes. I know they need doing but having 6 of us to sort it can get quite expensive lol xx

Hello there Mrs Fychan
Tbh not had a blooming minute to myself, on my list today is to ring round for some quotes, but I have a feeling the blood test will probably be the same where ever we go! The actual medicals themselves to have done in York wasn't too bad, but the cost of the bloods was a bit shocking lol. The total was £1600 approx. Plus on top of that I need a specialist report for my eldest daughter doing too.............don't think there will be much in the crimbo stockings this year
Take care
