Long term biz visa, can you apply in country?

How lovely to read & thank you for that.
You know. You have been given very good, informative answers to your questions plus detailed explanations of that which you haven't quite understood . Yet your response is to be somewhat rude to others. This does say more about you , than it does about the respondent.
To be crystal clear. I gave my free time to answer & help. Not as a moderator but as a person who could.
I can only hope that you pass the good information along to your friend for her to consider & that you now understand what is a visa, what is a permit & what is a category.

We started our LTBV journey in May, submitted the application in August, and we are still fighting to get it approved We also used a NZ immigration advisor as i'ts one of the more complicated visas.
They do say up to 3mths process time if everything is in order. Unfortunately we had a case officer who kept changing the goal posts so the whole process has been lengthy for us. I know another BE Forum user that got theirs within 3mths
You have to show what actual business you will be buwying/applying for and have a business plan specific for that business within the application
Hope this helps, any more q's just ask and I will help if I can

What was the advisor you used?
Can you elaborate on the goal posts that were changed?

It is good to gather information from these forums but ultimately using a recognised migration advisor is advisable?

If they ran a successful fushnchup shop(s) in their country of residence then it could be perfectly possible to uplift a successful LTB application as I'm sure you realise.

Sometimes an Immy consultant who specialises in certain fields i.e. medical or character issues. One that has good working knowledge of business plans and forecasts in the case of a LTB application could only be money well spent and an asset. Same for those phased my form filling.
Choose a consultant by known reputation. There are some good ones and some very poor ones out there.

As BEVS says, immigration agents are only a good idea if you have specific problems with getting a visa. If you are able to fill in forms and provide all the information and paperwork required then do it yourself - you would need to provide any immigration agent with relevant paperwork anyway so most of the job done.
We originally used an immigration agent who had a good reputation and was one of two who had been doing it the longest, but who subsequently was suspended for dodgy practices for 2 years (that must nearly be up - will keep an eye out) and went bust, we lost over £4k. In the end my husband found his own job and we did the paperwork. The rest as they say is history.
Save yourself the bother and the $ and do it yourself.

Aye. That was and still is terrible. I do still keep my eyes up for Geoff Standing , but you know how it works here. It's who you know & someone will guarantor him to work. I bet he is still swanning around, cashed up, in Golden Bay.
Still makes me sick.

Honestly, if NZ is different than USA, I am trying to learn here. Not being snarky. I'm honestly curious.

I know of someone who arrived in NZ as a tourist, decided he liked it and LTBV was the way in for him. He went to Wellington and talked directly to Business Migration Office to get info needed, found business(cafe) in Dunedin, went back to Wellington with necessary papers, was given go ahead but was only allowed to work as business consultant to his own business until permit came through which it did in a record 6 weeks. He has since gotten his residency, sold that business and now works as a real estate agent.

the application says visa, not permit. No idea why use of a term is such an issue
