Question How long for processing a 12-month work visa/permit

Meh, whatever it's called.

This is with an accredited employer's job offer, from the US. How long is the processing likely to take?... I need to know roughly how long to book our accommodation for after we leave our house, and when we should book tickets for!

Ta.

Hi Maz,

Maybe ring Chicago's consulate on (773) 714-8669 and see what they know. Alternatively you may want to ring the NZ Embassy in DC (I assume this is where you'll be sending your passports) on (202) 328 4800.

When I sent in my temp work visa application in December 2001 it took about two-and-a-half weeks if I recall correctly.

But yeah, ring them up and ask. I found the consular staff reasonably polite and informative.

Thanks happy! Consular staff were lovely, embassy immigration staff couldn't wait to get off the phone. grrrr

Anyway, they said it would take 10-15 days to process the visas... which have to include the medicals and police clearances as the job offer is for permanent full-time. ARGH! This means spending bloody thousands on medicals... grrrr!

Ouch! I didn't anticipate the police clearances and medicals being required at this stage. My first job offer was a one year contract so I wasn't asked for the medicals nor police clearances. Bugger...

Yep! I'm glad this is a full-time permanent position though.
