Evidence for work experience

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what necessary items do I need to prove my past work experience? I am going to include references on a companies letterheads. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm self-employed so all i've got is written technical references from employers (I hope that's gonna be ok..)
