Yes. He should really consider that as an option .

In any case he should leave the country before or on the WHV expiry date if he doesn't have another NZ visa in lace. If he is deported as an overstayer he will seriously jeopardise his chances of being allowed to return.

Oh dear. Best to have kept it simple for the employer . It made it sound like there would be a stand down period of 30 days which wouldn't have been the case would it.
